23 Life Lessons I’ve Learned by 23

In celebration of my 23rd birthday, I thought I would share 23 life lessons I’ve learned before turning 23, in no particular order.

23. It’s not always what you say, but how you say it.

22. Always be kind. You don’t know everyone’s story.

21. Always leave the house five minutes early.

20. Everyone on the road is going somewhere just like you are. Be patient.

19. Your room will stay cleaner if you put things back where they belong.

18. Goals should push you but be reachable.

17. You’ll get more done if you just do it now.

16. Life is better with a friend.

15. Fear shouldn’t stop you, but it shouldn’t move you, either.

14. You don’t have to be first.

13. Saying yes to one thing is usually saying no to something else. Choose wisely.

12. You don’t have to react to everything, but you can respond.

11. Personality tests can help you understand yourself but they shouldn’t define you.

10. Your house doesn’t have to be spotless to give someone good hospitality.

9. The unknown can look scary, but look at it as an adventure.

8. You don’t need your hair styling tools at the highest setting. You really don’t.

7. It doesn’t matter how long you’ve been working on something — it’s how consistently you’ve worked on it that will make the difference.

6. If you aren’t moving forward, you’re moving backward.

5. Just put the laundry away. Just do it.

4. You’re never fully dressed without a smile. (Thank you, Annie.)

3. You have to make the time for things you want to do, otherwise you’ll never do them.

2. First and foremost, you are a child of God.

1. Always default to grateful.

Which lesson was your favorite? Let me know in the comments!

xoxo, Erin
