Her Anointing is Not a Threat to Yours.

“Her anointing is not a threat to yours.”

I heard this during my weekly women’s group, and it has stuck with me since. Every time I start to compare myself to the girl on my Instagram feed, the girl sitting in front of me at Sunday service, or even the girl I passed by in the grocery store, these words echo in my mind from the depths of my heart.

At first, I only connected this statement to spiritual anointing. You know, the woman who has such incredible wisdom and knowledge you marvel at how she could possibly store all of that information in her human brain. Yes, that kind of anointing, too, but I’m talking about the smaller nuances.

Let’s replace the word anointing with some other words:

Her talent is not a threat to yours.

Her beauty is not a threat to yours.

Her personality is not a threat to yours.

Her identity is not a threat to yours.

When you understand and believe in your heart that you are simply different from and not less than her, you can embrace your own qualities and love hers rather than being jealous or trying to be someone else. When we all do this, we come into our own identities and can accomplish more than we imagined.

Sister, you were created to be you. No one else can be you. You have so much to offer. Don’t dismiss your own anointing, your own talent, your own beauty, your own personality, your own identity, because it isn’t the same as the next person’s. Be who you were created to be. This world needs everything she is, but it needs everything you are, too.

xoxo, Erin
