O Come, Let Us Adore Him.

We've all heard the saying "Jesus is the Reason for the Season." But what does that really mean?

It's only the fifth day of the month and we're already feeling the hustle and bustle of the holiday season, even in the midst of the pandemic. Making our lists, shopping online, trying to hide packages from our family members so they don't know what they're getting; decorating the house, planning Christmas festivities around current mandates and stipulations, balancing work and volunteering; all the usual stuff, but a little more complicated.

But have we paused to remember why we're even doing this?

This morning in my daily Bible reading, Matthew 8:27 stopped me in my tracks. Jesus calms a storm with one command and the men marvel as the madness ceases. "What sort of man is this, that even winds and sea obey him?" (Matthew 8:27 ESV)

This month, we are celebrating a miracle. God sent His son to earth as fully God and fully man, in a way that could only be God, as the ultimate sacrifice to reconcile us to Him.

Read that again.

The world Jesus was born into was just as chaotic as the one we live in now. Maybe they weren't in the midst of a global pandemic, but they were in the midst of a pandemonium of sin, deceit, and betrayal. They may not have been waiting for the world to go back to "normal," but they were awaiting a Messiah that would save them from the chaos.

This month, let us not forget why we're celebrating. It's not about us. It's not about surviving the madness. Friends, it's about Jesus. Take comfort in that and let it calm your storm.

O come, let us adore Him.

xoxo, Erin
