Ways to Spring Clean You Probably Haven't Thought About

If you’re anything like me, you’re probably knee-deep in spring cleaning. But spring cleaning isn’t just for your home.

I’ve always loved to clean. As a child, when asked to clean my room, I wouldn’t just pick up my dirty clothes, make my bed, and vacuum the floor. I would literally pull everything off my bookshelves, dust each individual item, and rearrange everything to my liking. I would take all the clothes out of my drawers and refold them neatly. And don’t get me started on my closet…

As an adult, I still love to clean. In all of this chaos surrounding the virus and social distancing, I’m surprised I haven’t gone totally Danny Tanner (if you know, you know). I have, however, tried some new cleaning products, decluttered some rooms, and redecorated a few spaces in our humble abode. As I finish a project, I feel a sense of accomplishment, a gentle wave of peace. Then, my mind wanders to the next project… what next? It gets me thinking about what else we can clean up and clean out in this time of rest and resetting.

Clean out your laptop and phone. Apps you’ve downloaded and never used, documents you don’t need to keep, notes and reminders, and even screenshots from Pinterest or Instagram. You’d be surprised how much clutter is in there!

Clean out your social media. You may be following accounts that are no longer active, brands you followed to enter a giveaway, and even accounts that are posting content that gets you down in the dumps about the world or even yourself. Your feed will be much more positive, encouraging, and more curated to what you enjoy (thank you, algorithm)!

Clean out your heart. Or rather, allow God to clean out your heart! Spend some quiet time in your secret place. Let Jesus heal wounds, scars, and pain and fill you up with peace, joy, and love. Let Him pull everything off your bookshelf, dust off each individual item, and rearrange everything to His liking. Let Him refold your clothes. When your heart has been spring cleaned, you’ll feel that sense of accomplishment, that gentle wave of peace. And when your mind wanders to the next project, you’ll have a better understanding of how to tackle it.

I hope this has been encouraging for you and that we come out of this time stronger and “cleaner” than ever!

xoxo, Erin
